The Australian Cinémathèque at GOMA provides an ongoing program of film and video that you're unlikely to see elsewhere. Screenings take place Wednesday and Friday nights and Saturday and Sundays matinees.

Screening this month is ‘Make, Believe, Magic: The Worlds of The Jim Henson Company' coming to life on the big screen with three exclusive accompanying programs, and our upcoming Live Music & Film program 'Schatten - Eine nächtliche Halluzination (Warning Shadows)' 1923 accompanied with a new score by David Bailey on the Gallery’s 1929 Wurlitzer organ in October — plus much more.

We offer a rich and diverse experience of the moving image, showcasing the work of influential filmmakers and international cinema, rare 35mm prints, recent restorations, silent films with live musical accompaniment and regular In Conversation events with film creatives.

Most screenings are free; however for ticketed film programs the Cinémathèque Box Office opens one hour prior to screenings and you are able to purchase snacks and refreshments during this time which can be taken into the cinema. As we do not screen commercial trailers prior to films we suggest you arrive early to allow plenty of time to enter and find a seat.
