Up Late returns to Brisbane’s Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) over two spectacular nights in March 2020 with sets by leading Australian musicians and DJs, pop-up performances, science activations, bars, dining and more!

Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) Director Chris Saines said Water Up Late would run from 6.00-10.30pm on Friday 20 and Saturday 21 March, 2020 and include performances by singer-songwriter and environmental activist Montaigne, experimental jazz four-piece Mildlife and legendary Brisbane musician Robert Forster of The Go‑Betweens.

Tamsin Cull, Head of Public Engagement, QAGOMA said over both evenings audiences to Water Up Late could gather outside GOMA at the Maiwar Green stage, where DJs, live music and interactive science pop-ups would entertain audiences of all ages.

‘Visitors can also experience GOMA’s major summer exhibition ‘Water’ featuring almost 100 contemporary works such as Olafur Eliasson’s vast rocky landscape Riverbed 2014, Fischli and Weiss’ Snowman 1987/2017-19 and William Forsythe’s interactive installation of gymnasium rings The Fact of Matter 2009 brought to life by contemporary circus performance group Casus,’ Ms Cull said.

The opening act for Water Up Late will be an energising performance by South Sudanese popstar Gordon Koang, followed by a fierce, politically charged R&B and gospel set by proud Pitjantjatjara/Torres Strait Islander singer-songwriter, Miiesha, with the night rounded out by Montaigne.

On Saturday 21 March, Adrian Eagle will bring his infectious reggae-inspired rhythms to centre stage, along with the gritty electro and hip hop inspired beats of Brisbane solo artist LÂLKA. Later that evening Water Up Late will culminate with a must-see performance by Robert Forster with a set of iconic water-related songs from his catalogue.

People who love to sing in the shower can indulge themselves in the Bathroom Beats: Shower Karaoke pop-up presented by Urban Utilities, major partner for ‘Water’. Featuring water-related hits that run no longer than four minutes, the pop-up encourages you to save both water and money.

Water Up Late audiences can also enjoy the Science+Chill Lounge outside GOMA and witness awesome presenters and playful science experiments with a twist. It’s a space to sit back and relax as science broadcasters, delightful nerds and sci-comedians Joel Gilmore & Lee Constable entertain!
Water Up Late is presented as part of Curiocity Brisbane 2020. For more information about the program and to purchase tickets visit: qagoma.qld.gov.au/uplate
