A rarely screened, tense home invasion thriller, The Night Holds Terror is one of John Cassavetes early career acting roles in which he caught the attention of the film studios. Based on a true story, the film follows family man Gene Courtier (Jack Kelly) who picks up hitchhiker Victor Gosset (Vince Edwards). Gosset pulls a gun and presses Courtier to drive an isolated spot in the Mojave Desert where he’s joined by two other members of this criminal gang. They eventually instruct the Courtier to take them all home to his wife and kids where the trio terrorise the family to extort money. Cassavetes plays the mastermind of gang’s kidnapping and puts in a chilling performance as the brutal and calculated Robert Batsford.
